Borrowing eBooks from OverDrive
So you’ve purchased yourself an e-reader? Congratulations! You’re now connected to the big, wide world of electronic books, magazines, newspapers, and comics. How do you go about getting those lovely e-books on to your e-reader? Well, that’s a different story.
Although each e-reader that is available on the market has a slightly different method of purchasing and borrowing books, there are some commonalities among most of them.
To begin with, each e-reader that you will purchase will come connected to a Book Store that allows you to purchase e-books to put on your e-reader and your home computer. The latest models will allow you to do this without connecting to your computer. Reading the user guide that accompanies your e-reader is the best way to get instructions on how to purchase books from the store.
Borrowing e-books is a whole other bag of tricks. Your local library, such as the County of Prince Edward Public Library and Archives, will most likely work with an online lending program called Overdrive. The program works almost exactly like your library, allowing you to borrow e-books or audiobooks electronically for between 7-14 days.
You do require a library card and a 4 digit pin that is assigned to you by the library.
If you don’t know your pin, please feel free to contact the library at 613-476-5962

Digging Up Deals For Canadians – Without Ever Leaving Your Seat!
Finding the time to get to the mall or your favourite stores while they’re still open isn’t necessarily the most feasible of ideas in today’s busy society. Although online shopping isn’t a new concept, its popularity has increased significantly in the past few years. According to an October 2011 article by e-Commerce Guide, “U.S. online retail reached $175 billion in 2007 and is projected to grow to $335 billion by 2012 “. In a study done by Nielsen Company in 2010, 83% of North Americans were already shopping online, and according to LFPress.com (London Free Press), that number has increased 24% since then.

Google Plus or Google Minus?
Being a user of Gmail as our main email accounts at the library, we decided that perhaps it was time to see what all the fuss was about with Google + (Google plus), since we often have patrons curious about it.
Joining was incredibly easy. Once logged into Gmail, click the +You link in the top left-hand corner of the screen where all of the other Google options are listed. If you are not a Gmail user, simply go to the Google Plus homepage (plus.google.com), and click the Create an Account link. This will take you straight to the Google + registration page, where your information may already be entered (as Google has this information from your Gmail account), or you may have to enter yours in.
