      Hi Vicky,
I’m going to forward your comment to Alex, our CAP intern who is quite familiar with the Playbook. Thanks, Liz

    Hi Vicky,

I’m Alex, I too was disappointed when I learned that I couldn’t use Overdrive (the library’s e-book borrowing site) on my Playbook, however there appears to be good news! I was reading a bit on Blackberry’s website and they are saying that the the new operating system for the Playbook will be out sometime in February 2012. When this happens you will be able to download an Android App Player, through this App Player you will be given access to Android apps such as Overdrive. Once that happens you will be able to borrow library books!

The latest operating system has been made available early to app creators and a few of them have confirmed that Overdrive does work.

I can’t wait until February so I can try this out myself! It will be nice to have access to Android’s apps as well!

    I hope this info helps!

    -Alex

          Hi Vicky!

The update is available now! Once you connect your Playbook to a WiFi connection, a notice will appear asking you to update your software to the latest version 2.0. This will take a little while to update, but once it is done your Playbook should automatically restart. Once it has restarted, go to App World. From App World, type “overdrive” in the search box at the top right of your screen and hit enter. Download the app.

I’m currently working on an instruction sheet that shows you how to set up your account with overdrive. I will send it as well as your account information to your email address.

          Happy eReading!

    Hi Vicky,

I haven’t seen or heard anything like that before…would your sister be able to make an appointment with either myself (Alex) or Whitney? We might need to play with that reader to see what is going on. I’ve sent you an email with the library’s contact information, can you get your sister to give us a call so we can set a time up? We can probably work something out in either the Picton or Wellington branches if she is interested?

    - Alex

I should add as well that the library does offer free help with laptops, e-readers and other electronic devices!
